This year Pluto enters Aquarius after being in Capricorn since 2008. This is a big energy change, which will be part of the backdrop of our lives for twenty years. While Pluto is now entering Aquarius now, it will only stay in Aquarius for a couple of months, after which it will regress back into Capricorn. It will then move permanently in Aquarius in 2024. These first few months are, however, very significant, as they will give us an idea of the way in which Pluto will manifest in the new sign.
Pluto is associated with deep transformation, intensity, death and regeneration. It is also associated with power, all across the spectrum, from empowerment to abuse. Pluto is also about the underworld and the shadow, about all that is hidden and below the surface. It is about the dark side of reality, but it also contains within it the resources and endurance needed to transform it..
When Pluto transits a sign, we can expect the shadow of that sign to blow up, highlighting areas of life associated to that sign that need to be transformed or that need to die all together. Usually this occurs via the ramping up of the shadow aspects of the areas of life ruled by the sign that Pluto is transiting. This then brings forward a need for rebalancing and healing. Said healing often occurs towards the end of the transits in the sign, both personally and collectively.
There are positive sides to the intensity and potency of Pluto. The positive side of Pluto, is empowerment, regeneration, the ability to look at the shadow without hiding from it, an intensification of expression that packs a punch, fierceness, resilience and determination. Aspects of life ruled by signs that are in a positive sign relationship to the sign Pluto is transiting, will intensify in positive ways and will showcase the healing and empowering side of Pluto. These areas of life will transform easily and will be empowered in positive ways. People with planets in air or fire signs may may experience this kind of positive transformation relative to those planets during Pluto’s time in Aquarius.
Now about the sign of Aquarius.
Aquarius is about group consciousness, the collective, while also being future focused and visioning of the next step for the self and the group. As a future focused sign, Aquarius is also associated with technological advancements, breakthroughs and inventions. As a sign of innovation, Aquarius is also about the individual with a vision who leads into a new time. Aquarian individuals are often rebels with a cause. As Pluto moves into Aquarius we can expect the focus of power to move from the Capricorn ruled corporations and big business, to the people and the collective. On the positive side this can be a time where the power returns to the people, a time of revolutions and new paradigms. On the negative side, this influence can also manifest as abuse of power via collective orientated forms, such as totalitarian regimes based on socialist/progressive principles run wild.
During Pluto in Aquarius, we can also expect many advancements in technology, as for example: AI based technology, gene editing, nanotechnology driven medicine, and human enhancements via implants. We will also likely see an overall focus on transhumanism, the blending of human, AI and machine. If we look at how the internet has transformed our lives over the past 20 years, we may see even more radical changes driven by digital technology, virtual reality and cybernetics over the next twenty years. Technology, as always, is neutral, and can be used for good or ill, depending on those that control it. With Pluto entering into the domain of technology, however, we will likely see the shadow side of technology rise first. We can expect the dark side of technology to become an area of focus and a subject of discussion during Pluto’s time in this sign. We may even see abuses of power via technological means.
The group focus of Pluto in Aquarius will also swing on the pendulum to a time in society in which collective needs take priority over individual needs. This too can have positive and negative manifestations, from the birth of new humanitarian movements, to the squashing of the individual in favor of collective goals. The latter could result in a loss of freedom that will eventually seek to be rebalanced. On the other hand, the opposite may also occur, where freedom is rebooted and power goes to the people in major ways. The way the planetary energies manifest goes hand in hand with the level of development of the collective as a whole. What in our society needs to die and be reborn? What lessons is the Soul of humanity manifesting at this time? With Pluto in this sign, we will find that we will be talking more and more about humanity and the world, and about the direction that we are taking, together, going forward. Now for us to see how these influences start playing out in the next few months.
